Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Lover

—Kiki Georgiou

Lover, the Australian label designed by Nic Briand and Susien Chong, is having an art moment. Briand and Chong’s Fall ‘10 collection, which hits stores next month, is inspired by the female artist and her wardrobe—from clothes she’d wear in the studio, like overalls and smock shirts, through to the opening-night tuxedo. “It’s called Untitled,” Chong explains. “We’ve been going to a lot of exhibitions and even thought we might call it Oil on Canvas!”

Going to a lot of exhibitions is putting it mildly. On their worldwide tour of New York, London, and Paris, you could almost mark the city by the museum shows attended: the YSL retrospective in Paris; the Margiela one here in London; American Woman at the Met in New York. “I walked into each room and wanted to be the Gibson girl—no, the boho woman—no, a screen siren!” Chong says. With the designers’ mix of influences and inspirations—from Le Ballon Rouge to the recent Rolling Stones documentary on the making of Exile on Main Street to a new band Briand enthuses about, Australia’s Tame Impala (”young, hippie kids, I don’t think they even wear shoes on stage!”)—the Lover girl, at least, can be all three.

- Noir (black) metallic lambskin.

- Brass hardware.

I have a kind of sick, deep throbbing heart pang obsession over a handbag. Like, if I don’t get it I may go kabonkers and need to be sent to a padded cell. It’s the Lanvin Happy Bag, priced at $1,980! But I just love the way it looks. It’s similar in feeling to a classic Chanel bag, but then it has a kind of twist. It’s quirky. The chain strap has little grosgrain bows, a nice lock at the flap…it’s generally very chic. After buying so many crazy things over the years,Lacoste, it’s nice to buy something somewhat elegant and almost regal.

A cheerful bow speaks to signature Lanvin style.

To be ultra creative, add a few DIY features like some black grosgrain ribbon. Tie the chains, maybe add a few gold coin charms (if you can find something like that) or a keychain and hello? You’re set and your heart will go on!

This stylish shoulder bag features:

- Tonal topstitching.

5 Ways to Simplify Your Personal Finances - Prada

1. Reduce the number of bank accounts.

[In Pictures: 8 Painless Ways to Save Money.]

If you're combining your life with a new spouse, moving from one house to another, or just frustrated with the amount of documentation you have filed (or unfiled) in your basement, it's a good time to simplify your finances. Simplification is not only practical, it is beautiful. This is the concept of kanso, a Japanese aesthetic usually applied to gardens. Through a stretch of the mind, we can apply this beauty to our lives and our finances.

5. Optimize your records.

Use just one credit credit for all your spending, pay off the bill every month, and earn cash back or other rewards. If you're not in the position to use credit at this level, simplify your debt payoff strategy by prioritizing your credit cards.

With investments spread out like this, I have to manage several extra forms when I organize my documentation for filing income taxes. It takes some work and possibly access to a notary public, but it is worthwhile to merge these accounts at your favorate discount brokerage as much as possible.

When you check your credit report for the first time from AnnualCreditReport.com, you may notice, like I did, you have several inactive credit cards. While canceling older cards could damage your credit score, considering keeping the oldest cards and consolidating your balances and credit limits. You may still need to avoid fees when transferring a balance from one card to another, so pay attention to the terms.

If you follow the latest changes among high-yield savings accounts, you may have accumulated a collection of bank accounts with small sums of money in most. Consider reducing your banking matrix to only the essential. I recommend keeping one interest-bearing checking account at a convenient location and one online savings account, but you may want to simplify even further by maintaining only a checking account.

It's easy to fill up a house with things you like. For the most part, music, movies, games, books, and electronics contribute to the enjoyment of your life. I'm not going to suggest extreme sparse living by eliminating everything you own, but there is an argument for getting rid of all but the most essential items. I am in favor of allowing the possessions that no longer bring joy to be recycled,Prada, re-gifted, or returned. For example, you can clean out your CD and DVD collection by selling them on eBay or Craigslist or by trading them in for Amazon.com gift certificates.

As a result of having too many bank accounts, investment accounts, credit cards, and possessions, you may find you have too much paperwork. Eventually you get around to filing papers, but there is a better system. All that's needed is a scanner and a shredder. After scanning important documentation, organize all your electronic documents and back up your files to an external hard drive or an online service.

[Visit the U.S. News Personal Finance site for more insight and money management tips.]

I didn't have cash up front to fully fund my first Roth IRA,Ed hardy belts, so I created an automatic investment plan at a brokerage with no minimum investment amount. In subsequent years, I preferred to invest a lump sum once a year. With cash available, I was able to meet the minimum investment requirements at a more favored brokerage. In addition, I have a number of non-retirement accounts spread out across several brokerages, including a few I opened to take advantage of account opening bonuses.

Simplifying your personal finances is rewarding through a reduction of stress and clutter. You will have more mobility and flexibility, and if for any reason another individual needs to step in and help you manage your finances, it will be easier.

4. De-clutter your possessions.

Luke Landes writes for Consumerism Commentary, where he encourages discussions about money and consumer issues. Consumerism Commentary regularly tracks and reviews the best online savings accounts and other financial products.

2. Merge your investment accounts to one location.

3. Eliminate unnecessary credit cards.

VF Anoints Carey, Carla, Gaga, And More

The issue itself—the much-blogged, Lady Gaga-covered September Vanity Fair—doesn’t hit stands until Thursday, but royal watchers, social chroniclers, and the legions of Little Monsters can get the answers they’ve waited for today: VF’s International Best-Dressed List is now online.

Conclusions? It’s a good time to be in politics. Michelle Obama made the women’s list, as did SamCam (a.k.a. Samantha Cameron, wife of Britain’s new prime minister, David Cameron), and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. Carey Mulligan and Diane Kruger made their first appearances on the women’s list as well. On the Originals list, Lady Gaga makes her debut, joining Helena Bonham Carter, John Galliano, and the Duchess of Alba, among others. On the men’s side, Waris Ahluwahlia shares space with Javier Bardem, Alec Baldwin (on the list after a 21-year hiatus), and André Balazs, to name a few. And the fashion industry is repped by Tory Burch, Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman, Alice + Oliva’s Stacey Bendet, Alber Elbaz, and Glamour’s Cindi Leive.

The complete list—including couples, sibling pairs, and the hall of fame—is now up at www.vanityfair.com.

No bouquet for South African White We - Laguna Be

Do you need to be told that the bus will be missed, Tumi will fail to turn up, the car will break down and one delay after another will cause the men to quarrel? Or that the happy couple, on opposite ends of mobile phones,Laguna Beach, will begin to question each other's commitment to the marriage? You can also throw in an ex-boyfriend (Mbulelo Grootboom), who suddenly appears in Cape Town to knock the bride off-kilter.

(please visit our entertainment blog via www.reuters.com or on http://blogs.reuters.com/fanfare/)

This movie is not shy about delivering the obvious, though a gift goat from Granny, which the men acquire along the way, might not be completely predictable. But Turner, who wrote the comedy with her two male leads, means for this chaotic road trip to have a purpose other than laughs at the expense of increasingly frantic travelers. She means to paint a portrait of post-apartheid South Africa by sending two black men through bush country where unrepentant Afrikaners still brood over their beers and a sign on a taproom toilet might proclaim "White Men Only."

That her country chose the film as its official entry for the foreign-language Oscar earlier this year speaks to its success with domestic audiences; it performed surprisingly well at the box office. However, international audiences will be confronted by a rather predictable and highly implausible road movie that strains to achieve too many agendas.

So now two black men and a white woman get all kinds of startled looks and worried glances. What happens when they enter a bar full of racist Boers is so far-fetched you can only accept it on faith. It does, however, provide Marcel van Heerden with a memorable cameo as a curmudgeonly old Boer.

Upping the ante, she contrives for a white female hitchhiker to join the men on their journey. To do the latter, she asks a viewer to accept that an English woman doctor (Jodie Whittaker) would flee her best friend in a quarrel over a man and then hitchhike through an unfamiliar wilderness in a foreign country. Worse, she hops into the back seat of Tumi's car without so much as introducing herself or asking for a lift. Elvis rightly complains this intruder might be a drug dealer or worse, but Tumi just shrugs.

This mix of near slapstick comedy and social commentary doesn't always gel. Not helping matters is the film's near total reliance on caricatures from the fey wedding planner and punctilious bridal-shop assistant to the country rustics and township matriarchs that snatch the wedding out of the beleaguered bride's hands.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – For her feature debut, South African director Jann Turner has made an ambitious social comedy titled "White Wedding."

The film has enough winning attributes to become one of those "worth a look" picks by local critics when it opens more widely in North America following its debuts Friday in Los Angeles and New York. So the film has potential for modest box-office returns in specialty venues.

So "Wedding" is a mixed bag, to say the least. It is interesting, for instance, to see how black characters will switch languages to exclude others from a conversations. But you worry that on occasion the characters fooled the subtitlists as well. So much of the behavior defies easy understanding yet the translated dialogue fails to satisfy those concerns.

The story is simple: Just days before his wedding, a happy groom named Elvis (Kenneth Nkosi) is 1,Ed hardy belts,800 kilometers away from his bride, Ayanda (Zandile Msutwana), and the site of their wedding in Cape Town. Why he is so far away never is explained. Neither is the convoluted route to his nuptials: take a long-distance bus to Durban to connect with best man Tumi (Rapulana Seiphemo), who has a car but absolutely no sense of responsibility.
